What if Donald Trump, the disgraced, twice impeached former president, decided to run for Congress in 2022 with the intention of taking over as Speaker of the House and launching impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden?
Is that crazy? Would Trump really put aside his ego and run for the lowly House of Representatives? Is he that vindictive?
Far-right USA Radio Network host Wayne Allen Root earlier this month urged Trump to do precisely that.
"Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I'm hoping you'll run in 2024 but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats. And then you become the Speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden. You'll wipe him out for this last two years," Root said.
"That's so—that's so interesting," Trump responded.
"Do it! You'll be a folk hero!," said Root.
"Yeah, you know it's very interesting," Trump replied, noting that some supporters have previously suggested he run for Senate. "But you know what, your idea might be better. It's very interesting."
Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon came up with that idea back in February, telling Boston Republicans, "He'll come back to us. We'll have a sweeping victory in 2022, and he'll lead us in 2024. We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as Speaker will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency."
There is no telling what such an action would do to other Congressional races around the country. There is no doubt, however, that Trump supporters would throng to the polls, and it could result in a catastrophe for Democrats.
Moreover, there is no telling what additional damage Trump would do to the country, further deepening the schism that already exists between so many Americans, and potentially sweeping Republicans into power. Biden has it tough now? It would be nothing compared to what that scenario would be like.
Whether Trump decides to pull such a stunt or not, it is clear that he has no intention of going away any time soon -- unless, of course, the Manhattan Grand Jury that is looking into Trump's potential criminal activities has other ideas. Then, "go away" could take an entirely different meaning for Trump.
Stirring up the Troops
Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee and Trump are pulling out all the stops to raise money and to stir up the Trump faithful. The RNC ust sent out a mailer called the "Biden Referendum," which is simply a fundraising appeal.
The missive says the GOP plans to make the 2022 midterm elections a referendum on the Biden presidency. Really? I hope that they do. Uncle Joe is doing a great job and as Trump would say, "everybody knows it."
Trump, himself, just distributed an email blast entitled "Mega-Donors vs. YOU."
"Liberal Big Tech companies, the Fake News media, and the Democrats have all teamed up to take me down, and more importantly, to take YOU down," he writes. "It’s COASTAL ELITES vs. YOU, Friend, and we need to pick up the pace."
So, once again, it is "us against them." And the Republicans say "Joe Biden and the Democrats were lying when they claimed they wanted to 'unify' our country."
"To them," writes the GOP, "you don't exist or matter."
Meanwhile, at the Supreme Court...
All of this comes as Trump's conservative-packed Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, a major victory for Democrats. Even two of Trump's appointees, Brett M. Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, voted with the 7-2 majority to turn away the latest challenge from Republican-led states that was endorsed by the Trump administration.
It also comes as America celebrates its first Juneteenth holiday, so ordered by Congress and signed by President Biden. It's a day that commemorates the freeing of slaves, a holiday that has been a long time in coming, and one that took a Democratic Congress and Democrat president to bring to fruition. It was an important step towards bringing our country together.
So, yes, there is a great deal at stake in the 2022 Congressional elections, with Republicans now chafing at the bit to gain control. Will Trump's influence and possible shenanigans, combined with gerrymandering and new laws to suppress the vote, turn the tide?
Democrats need to come together and fight back. For the good of our country.

Bob: This post makes the exact observations I made in my comments to your "Trumpertantrum" post. Do not count this clown out. He has too many followers, too much sway with the party, and loves no one more than he loves himself. He will stop at nothing to stay relevant. Get out there, people; register, and VOTE for whoever he runs against, in whatever elective office he seeks. Thanks, Mark
